BOSTON – HYANNIS & THE BEST OF MASSACHUSETTS

9 Days / July 17

Day 1.  We board the coach this morning greeting old friends; and, begin to make new friends with our traveling companions.  Today our travels take us through Illinois, Indiana, and into Ohio.  Lodging:  Hampton Inn, Maumee, OH

Day 2.  We begin this morning and every morning of the tour with breakfast at the hotel.  Today, we move on to Niagara Falls, NY.  We will not be entering Canada; so documentation is not needed for customs.  We arrive this afternoon; and, tour the Daredevil Museum.  You will see exhibits and photographs on Niagara’s rich daredevil history including Robert Ovenacker’s Jet Ski and Steve Trotter & Lori Martin’s barrel. We then board the Maid of the Mist, a 30-minute guided boat ride to the base of the American Falls.  Water rushes all around as you “soak” in the excitement and feel the thunder of the Falls; thrill of a lifetime!  Lodging:  Comfort Inn – The Pointe, Niagara Falls, NY

Day 3. We head for Massachusetts today; and, are anxious to begin our adventure in this magnificent state.  Our lodging for the next two nights is just outside Boston.  Lodging:  Quality Inn & Suites, Lexington, MA (2 nights)

Day 4.  We begin the day with Old Town Trolley Tours highlighting important sites in Boston’s history.  The fully narrated tour is a great way to cover the city’s biggest attractions.  Stops include Faneuil Hall, Boston Common and many other must-see areas.  In less than 2 hours, you have your expectations exceeded with the services of your highly knowledgeable, witty and entertaining guide.  We next visit the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum which relives the powerful story of the Kennedy years.  In the three theaters, period settings, and 25 dramatic multimedia exhibits, you will enter the recreated world of the Kennedy Presidency for a “first-hand” experience of John F. Kennedy’s life, legacy and leadership.  President Kennedy’s 26’ sailboat Victura is also on display on the Museum grounds at the edge of Boston Harbor.  No visit to Boston is complete without a visit to Quincy Market. This outdoor festival marketplace built in 1826 features street performers, pushcarts and over 70 specialty shops and restaurants in three separate buildings.  We stop here to explore, shop and grab a bite of lunch.  This afternoon, we also visit a Boston “must do”, Filene’s Basement, a “True Boston Landmark”.  The prices are unbeatable – 25% off the 1st week; 50% off the 2nd week; 75% off the 3rd week; then the merchandise is given to charity.  Dinner this evening is at Woodman’s of Essex which opened in 1914.  This is the restaurant that invented the fried clam.  Our dinner is a clambake with choice of lobster or rotisserie chicken.

Day 5.  Today we find ourselves immersed in the year 1627, just seven years after the voyage of the Mayflower, at Plimoth Plantation.  You will be surrounded by the modest timber-framed houses, raised-bed gardens, livestock and fascinating townspeople of Plymouth Colony, the first permanent English settlement in New England.  The people you meet are costumed role players who have taken on the names, viewpoints and life histories of the people who actually lived in the colony, popularly known as the “Pilgrims” today.  This is a self-guided visit, so you are free to wander around the village at your own pace.  We then travel on to Provincetown with an opportunity to explore Main Street and have lunch.  This afternoon, we board Provincetown Trolley for a narrated tour of the “shining jewel of Cape Cod”.  You will travel Commercial Street; see the art district, hundreds of boutiques, and beautiful Cape Cod houses; see panoramic views of Provincetown Harbor, Cape Cod Bay, and the magnificent Atlantic Ocean; and, go through the 4,000 acre National Seashore Park. This narrated tour covers the past to the present with over 20 points of interest.  Our lodging for the next two nights is in the exclusive resort community of Hyannis. Lodging:  Comfort Inn, Hyannis, MA (2 nights)

Day 6.  Today, we take the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard, a less than 1 hr. ride.  Known as the “Jewel of New England”, Martha’s Vineyard is a mere 5 miles off the southern coast of Massachusetts.  With a rich history, thriving culture, and miles of seemingly endless beaches, there is no question why it is such a popular destination.  We have a 3 ˝ hr. guided motorcoach tour to see the beaches, lighthouses, gingerbread cottages and other points of interest; then return back to Hyannis.

Day 7.  Today we travel to Philadelphia and have a fun-filled evening.  Our guide in colonial dress leads us on a candlelight stroll through the enchantment of old-time Philadelphia to hidden walkways, quaint alleys and courtyards; and, the romance of 18th century gardens and cobblestone streets.  You will be immersed in the aura of Society Hill’s taverns and mansions.  Within these walls the private conversations of Franklin and Jefferson were once heard.  Lodging:  Comfort Inn Historic Area, Philadelphia, PA

Day 8.  We travel on to Zanesville, Ohio today; and have a special farewell dinner at an outstanding Italian restaurant this evening.  Lodging:  Comfort Inn, Zanesville, OH
