School is out in June; so this date works well for family travel – grandparents, parents, children & youth; fall is also a great time to tour these two cities; your choice!

Day 1.  Get acquainted with your traveling companions this morning as we journey through Illinois, Indiana and Ohio to our accommodations for tonight.  Lodging:  Comfort Inn, Zanesville, OH

Day 2.  Continental breakfast is included at the hotel this morning.  The Pennsylvania turnpike provides an interesting way to travel through the Allegheny Mountains.  In Gettysburg we view the Electric Map Show and have a narrated tour by a licensed battlefield guide with stopovers at the Peace Light and Little Round Tops.  Lodging:  Country Inn & Suites, Gettysburg, PA

Days 3-5.  On this day we have breakfast at the hotel then travel on to our nation’s capital to see many of the famous landmarks and to enjoy a very special experience.  On our schedule for viewing are:  The Changing of the Guard at Arlington National Cemetery; the Monuments of Jefferson and Washington; the Lincoln Memorial; Korean, Vietnam, & World War II Memorials; Mt. Vernon; Roosevelt Memorial; and some of the buildings of the Smithsonian Institution.  One evening we’ll enjoy a group dinner followed by a driving tour to see the monuments and public buildings glowing in the reflection of their evening flood lights. Traffic and crowd conditions will dictate our visiting time at the sites.  Our hotel is situated in an excellent location with easy access to many of the Smithsonian buildings, and it is on the local trolley sightseeing route for those who may wish to pursue personal interests.  Lodging:  Holiday Inn Capitol, Washington, DC (3 nights)

Day 6.  Early this afternoon a ferry ride to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island provides a great view of the skyline of New York City.  We check into our hotel that is within walking distance of Times Square, theaters and many shopsIn New York City, it’s location, location, location!  And, our hotel is in an outstanding location for visiting the city.  This evening we visit the Top of the Rock Observation Deck, a new and exciting attraction in the city, for a spectacular view of this marvelous city sparkling with lights.  Lodging:  The Belvedere Hotel, New York City, NY (2 nights)

Day 7.  This day features a guided motorcoach tour of Manhattan Island to see Ground Zero, Times Square, the Bowery, Chinatown, Wall Street, Park Avenue and Greenwich Village.  The remainder of the day is free.  Many theaters are within walking distance of our hotel; so you may want to catch a Broadway show.  Your Tour Director will provide information on purchasing discount tickets, as well as suggestions for other interesting activities.

Day 8.  We depart New York City this morning and head to Philadelphia to visit historic Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell.  After lunch, we travel through the rural countryside to “Pennsylvania Dutch Country” near Lancaster for a guided tour of the farmlands, homes and markets.  Tonight’s special treat is a Penn Dutch dinner.  Lodging:  Bird-in-Hand Inn, Bird-in-Hand, PA

Day 9.  We start the day with a breakfast smorgasbord at the hotel. Traveling more scenic highways through the mountains of Pennsylvania, we arrive at Hershey’s Chocolate World.  This stop provides a unique automated ride through a simulated world of chocolate, from cocoa plantations in the tropics to the basic steps in the manufacturing of chocolate.  Continuing on through Pennsylvania, we arrive in Ohio for the last night of our tour.  Lodging:  Comfort Inn, Zanesville, OH

Day 10.  We start the day with breakfast at the hotel.  The beauty of our nation’s capital and the stunning skyline of New York City are just a few of the precious memories we travel home with today.
