             ELEVEN COUNTRIES WITHOUT A PASSPORT

        5 Days / June 2

Day 1.  We depart early this morning full of anticipation for our “international experience”.  We travel through Illinois, Missouri, Iowa and on to our destination in Nebraska.  This evening we have a traditional German dinner along with entertainment by Die Singenden Wanderers and HeimatcTanzers at the German American Society; a great time!  We unpack only once on this tour; all four nights at the same hotel!  Lodging:  Comfort Inn & Suites, Omaha, NE (4 nights)

Day 2.  We have breakfast at the hotel this morning and every morning of the tour.  Omaha’s name in the Indian language translates “above all others on a stream”.  During a historical and hysterical drive, our step-on guide takes us on a window tour of Omaha that is “above all others”.  Are we in Spain?  For lunch, we enjoy tapas at Espana Restaurant with live entertainment.  This afternoon, we tour a 35 room Scottish-style mansion, Joselyn Castle. Built in 1903, the castle is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Later in the afternoon, we tour the Little Ukrainian Church and have a presentation on traditional linens and dessert.  They do like to feed us in this town!  This evening, we have the “Greek Experience” – dinner, dance performance and tour at St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church.

Day 3.  After breakfast, we visit Girls and Boys Town, the original Father Flanagan’s Boys’ Home, in Boys Town, NE.  We learn about the nearly 90 year history of this world-famous institution, their many programs, and their successes in turning around the lives of children to make them productive citizens who are successful in all facets of life.  It’s “Luck o’ the Irish” for lunch at theBrazen Head Irish Pub & Restaurant.  We also have a folk singer for entertainment.  This afternoon, we tour the Hindu Temple.  (Shoes must be removed before entering the temple; no shorts allowed.)  This afternoon, we step inside impressive Union Station, a beautifully restored art deco landmark and tour the Durham Western Heritage Museum.  The Museum is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution and hosts a variety of temporary exhibitions.  They offer unique, hands-on learning for people of all ages.  Explore Omaha’s history, discover something new in their temporary exhibits and remember the past through the special collections.  Explore Omaha of years past as you learn through today’s technology.  Throughout the museum, you’ll find exhibits that teach you about Omaha’s neighborhoods, notable citizens and interesting historical sites.  We also have an opportunity to visit the famous Old Market District for dinner on your own and time for shopping.  This evening, we are at the El Museo Latino for a performance of the Cho Mari Ballet Folklorico and galley tour.

Day 4.  Rise and shine!  This morning we head out to the countryside for a tour of the beautiful glass chapel, Holy Family Shrine.  Then there is time for lunch on your own and shopping at Village Point Mall.  This afternoon, we visit the Henry Doorly ZooOmaha’s internationally acclaimed zoological park, named Best Zoo in America according the Reader’s Digest, May 2004 edition.  Tram passes are included to eliminate some of the walking.  We spend time in two (2) areas.  The Lied Jungle is the world’s largest indoor tropical rain forest with some really interesting residents to amuse and awe you.  Desert Dome is the world’s largest indoor desert and is located under the world’s largest glazed geodesic dome.  It features plant and animal life from three (3) deserts of the world:  the Namib Desert of southern Africa, the Red Center of Australia and the Sonoran Desert of the southwest United States.  Located beneath the Desert Dome exhibit is the Kingdom of the Night, the world’s largest nocturnal exhibit.  We then stop at the Bohemian Café for a Czechoslovakian treat – kolache and beverage.  This evening is a highlight!  We have the Eight Course Titanic Dinner at the Renaissance Mansion.

Day 5.  You have an opportunity for an early breakfast at the hotel; we then stop by the Lithuanian Bakery for a slide presentation, tray of pastries, and an opportunity to purchase some goodies to take home with you.  We arrive home today with new friends, a better understanding of different cultures, and many special memories.
