NEW    SIGHTS & SOUNDS OF CHRISTMAS

               Special international holiday tour in Omaha, NE –

 England, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Lithuania, Mexico, Ukraine,

                            plus wonderful U. S. traditions!

Day 1.  We depart this morning with anticipation of a wonderful ethnic holiday tour plus very special U. S. holiday activities.  Sit back and relax as we begin our journey to seven countries and enjoy many special holiday traditions. This evening we have “A Christmas in Germany Celebration”with dancing, singing, and an authentic German Dinner.  The German American Society Center is one of the most fun places you will ever visit! We stay in the same hotel every night; you only unpack once!  Lodging:  Comfort Inn & Suites, Omaha, NE (4 nights)

Day 2.  We have breakfast at the hotel this morning and every morning of the tour.  This morning we have an “Irish Christmas at Father Flanagan’s House”.  The world-famous Father Flanagan’s Boys Town (renamed Girls and Boys Town) is an actual working town and is a real inspirational stop for our group.  Lunch today is an elegant buffet at RenaissanceMansion – turkey, ham and all the fix’ins!  We then enjoy “Christmas at the Union Station” where you will view the “Holiday Miniatures Display” and “Mini Ethnic Tree Display” at Durham Western Heritage Museum.  We then view over 7000 beautiful poinsettias at “Holiday Poinsettia Show” at the Lauritzen Botanical Gardens.  This evening we have “Christmas in Greece”with dancing, singing and dinner at St. John’s Orthodox Church.  Our final activity of the day is a Christmas Lights Tour with a step-on guide.

Day 3.  We begin the day viewing over 250 gingerbread houses, “Gingerbread Village on Parade”, at the Morman Trails Center at Winter Quarters. Next, we experience “Nineteenth Century Holidays” at the Historic General Crook HouseThe military commander’s home provides a background of simple grandeur for lavish holiday decorations and trees.  A Victorian piano is playing and we are served cookies and cider.  We enjoy “Holiday Under Glass”, sounds of theseason by choirs and music groupsat the Joslyn Art Museum, as you have lunch on your own in the cafeteria.  This afternoon, we learn how people in the Ukraine celebrate the holidays, “Christmas Traditions in the Ukraine”,at the Little Ukrainian Churchwith a special afternoon Ukrainian pastry.  This is followed by a “Behind-The-Scenes Tour” of the Omaha Community Playhouse, the largest community theatre in the U. S.; learn the history of the Playhouse from Marlon Brando to Henry Fonda.  This evening we attend a production of the “The Christmas Carol” – an Omaha tradition for over 30 years, at the Omaha Community Playhouse.

Day 4.  We start this day with “Christmas at the Lithuanian Bakery” to learn about the bakery items and tradition of the Lithuanian country of Eastern Europe. You may want to bring along some zip lock bags to take treats home!  Next, we have a “Candy Making Demonstration” at JT’s Kandyland Express.  Watch the Candy Chef create candy the old fashioned way.  No visit to Omaha is complete without visiting the Old Market DistrictYou have time for lunch on your own, exploring the unique shops, and possibly even taking a carriage ride.   Then, later this afternoon we have the “1927 Kimball Theatre Pipe Organ Performance”.  This special Christmas concert with a Christmas sing-a-long features one of the most amazing theatre pipe organs in the state.   This evening we attend the “Annual Christmas Concert at St. Cecilia’s Cathedral” presented by the Omaha Symphonic Chorus & Omaha Symphony. 

Day 5.  We leave early this morning to travel home filled with Christmas spirit; and, with special memories of this very special holiday tour.
